Assistant Project Manager

To support operational growth, Forbes Bros is recruiting an Assistant Project Manager to support our Major Projects Division on a variety of projects throughout Manitoba and Ontario.

Reporting to the Project Manager, and working daily with Project Leadership and Construction Management, the Assistant Project Manager will be in charge of assisting in the organization and administration of project related documentation. This will involve monitoring project plans, schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures, organizing and participating in stakeholder   meetings, and ensuring that project deadlines are met in a timely manner.



The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support to project team members or project delivery managers to effectively administer project delivery, responsibilities include project subtask coordination, document and control, financial services, and communication
  • Provide input from the field to support regular schedule Own and manage weekly project schedule updates as dictated by the Project Managers
  • Assist in the area of project cost control and tracking cost information
  • Assist in tendering, negotiating, and preparation of trade contracts and purchase agreements not provided by pre-construction services delegated by the Project Manager
  • Attend construction meetings as required
  • Assist with expediting change notice completion, approval and execution
  • Assist with the coordination of review of contractors record drawings by the consultant
  • Prepare and issue Field Review Reports, change notices, site instructions and clarification as needed
  • At completion, review the project for general compliance with contract documents including arranging for any required final inspections by the Project Manager
  • Track & manage contemplated change notices and change orders in the database
  • Prepare substantial completion certificates and ensure all required project close out documents are obtained
  • Communicate ideas for improving company processes with a positive and constructive attitude, and for developing this attitude in others
  • Inform the Project Manager and other project leadership team members about project status and issues that may impact client relations
  • Provide assistance to ensure project Health & Safety & Environmental Standards are met
  • Manage cost tracking for the respective project managers. Cost tracking shall include: Gathering and recording internal and external project and department costs, Invoicing, change order
  • Utilization of construction cost management platform (Viewpoint) to manage all project costs on a daily
  • Provide administrative support related to time-entry or onboard as required
  • Development of reporting tools and dashboards for internal and customer reporting and presentation



As the successful, candidate you will have:


  • Minimum of 2-6 years related work experience or combination of education & years experience
  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Project Management, Mechanical Engineering or related post-secondary program is preferred
  • Knowledge of main construction office processes; project set up; subcontract management; change orders; RFI`s; closeout
  • Viewpoint Construction Software experience considered an asset
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite especially Excel



  • Willingness to work in remote project locations, embedded with operational work groups
  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication, coordinating resources as well as the ability to analyze data and solve problems
  • A friendly professional demeanor and ability to excel in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong analytical and detail-oriented aptitude; a high degree of accuracy is required
  • Ability to manage time effectively, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to learn and adapt to change


Additional Details:

This position is field based and requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment/pre-access drug and alcohol testing to obtain clearance for site access
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s licences and acceptable abstract
  • Requires regular travel to various project sites and office locations
  • Complete background screening and criminal record check
